The City of Delaware has appointed Nic Langford to lead economic development.
Langford brings extensive experience leading economic development efforts at the municipal level. He most recently directed economic development for the City of Suffolk, Va., while overseeing tourism and the city’s executive airport. Prior to that, Langford was Redevelopment Director for the City of Clarksville, In., where he handled multiple projects and programs and oversaw more than $150 million in new development.
City Manager Tom Homan was impressed with Langford’s range of experiences.
“Nic is a great addition to our team and to the Delaware business community,” Homan said. “He has developed small businesses and attracted large employers while working with different levels of government. I am confident Nic will be a tremendous asset to our community and take Delaware to the next level.”
In his new role, Langford will be responsible for executing Delaware’s strategic business plan, developing relationships with local, regional, national, and international businesses and assisting companies interested in relocating to Delaware or expanding here.
Delaware is adding 1.3 million square feet of industrial space to its Sawmill Pointe Business Park, the anchor of the Sawmill Parkway corridor on the city’s west side and a continuation of the current industrial park. Nearby, construction is nearly complete on the final leg of the Sawmill Parkway Extension that will complete a vital piece of transportation and provide access that enhances the local economic base.
“I’m honored and excited to be in Delaware,” Langford said. “I look forward to working with our dedicated staff and leaders in the private and public sectors to continue to create opportunities that build on the growth and vibrancy of this city.”
Langford is a Topeka, Kan., native. He graduated from the University of Kansas and earned a master’s degree from the University of Louisville.
