What better way to combine the beauty of the season with a bit of good old-fashioned exercise?

The City of Delaware has suggested a walking tour via social media that will allow residents to do just that.

The trail is in green in the map below. It is located just off West Central Avenue, across the street from the Fire Station and Lexington Boulevard, and south of Chatham Lane. Crossing walks and signals at both crossings now provide safe and convenient access to the primitive trail cut through the woods by the Parks and Recreation staff.

The signal project was funded through park impact fees and an ODNR community grant. If you are out walking, you may notice activity immediately west of the Lexington Blvd. crosswalk. The owners of the property (shown in red crosshatch) approached us about a purchase which we completed this summer. The structures have been valuable for our Fire Department to train in. They will be taken down and the site cleared of invasive shrubs and greenery to open more space for trail access and, in the long term, a possible connector to U.S. 36.

t the traffic light across from the fire station where the twin singles used to stand there is a parking area. Just pull into the driveway and park.

Total distance is about a half mile, including the loop and either Central Ave. access point.
