City Manager Tom Homan has named Capt. Adam Moore as Interim Chief of Police, effective May 21.

Moore, a 20-year veteran of the Delaware Police Department, takes over for former Chief Bruce Pijanowski who retired May 20 after 34 years with the department. He is taking a new position with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Moore was promoted to Captain in 2012. During his DPD career, he has served as a patrol officer, school resource officer and detective. Moore earned a degree in Criminology/Sociology from the Ohio State University, and a master’s in public safety from the University of Virginia. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Certified Law Enforcement Executive program.

The Police Department has approximately 55 sworn officers and an annual budget of nearly $12 million.

Delaware is undertaking a nationwide recruitment effort for the City’s next police chief.
