The Greater Galena Civic Association has planned a full day of fun for Summerfest on August 28 in downtown Galena.
Journey Fellowship kicks off the event with opening ceremonies at 11 AM. You’ll enjoy great food, a beer garden, and shopping at many business, arts, and craft vendors. The GGCA will have its popular Summerfest t-shirts on sale and you can buy raffle tickets for a chance to win awesome prizes such as a paddle board kit or a fire pit.
Entertainment for the day includes:
- Noon Southern Ohio Flying K9s Show
- 12:30 PM Master of Ceremonies Mike Kilburn from ABC 6 TV and out n about Columbus
- 1 PM Long Play (formerly The Hobgoblins)

New this year is Critter Corner 11 AM-3 PM at Ruffner Park. You’ll be able to meet adoptable dogs from Rico Pet Recovery, Cause for Canines, and the Humane Society of Delaware County. At Noon and 2 PM, the Southern Ohio Flying K9s will wow the crowd with their exciting frisbee show.
Always popular is KidZone 11 AM-6 PM at Journey Fellowship. Kids can enjoy free pony rides, face painting, crafts, balloons, a petting zoo, and the whole family can take a horse and wagon ride.
Another new feature is Safety Street on Harrison St. You can touch a truck and meet our first responders including the fire safety trailer, kids obstacle course, Delaware County Sheriff’s Command Center and mounted deputies; BST&G ladder and engine trucks; Harlem Township Fire District tanker truck; Delaware County EMS ambulance, Kubota, and bike patrol; Genoa Township Fire District rescue boat; and, the Delaware General Health District. MedFlight will land and offer tours in the 4-6 PM timeframe.
The Galena Historic Museum will be open 11 AM-8 PM at the Galena Village Hall, 109 Harrison St. The Big Walnut Nature Club will showcase the Village Hall Chimney Swifts at 8:30 PM as they make their dramatic approach to roost for the night.
