Genoa Township boasts a well-developed park system consisting of five developed parks, a community garden, a sledding hill and cross-country ski path, and an extensive trail network that is a part of the over 300-mile Ohio to Erie Trail, connecting Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati.

In 2020, the township’s voters approved a 3-year levy, starting in 2021, solely dedicated to funding parks and trails, providing a much-needed revenue stream. Concurrently, the police and fire levies were reduced, leading to no increase in millage.

The residents of Genoa Township had voiced their desire for the new levy’s funds to be used for the construction of pickleball facilities, renovation and replacement of playgrounds, and park restrooms. As of March 2023, the township has made significant progress towards achieving these objectives. For instance, Center Green Park now features four fenced pickleball courts. Similarly, Freeman Park has installed new playground equipment, and Hilmar Park is set to get new young children’s equipment by summer. Additionally, Hilmar Park and Worthington Gardens have both received new restrooms.

Overall, Genoa Township has made significant strides in improving its park system, thanks to the dedicated funding from the new levy. The township’s residents can now enjoy better recreational facilities and improved infrastructure, encouraging them to lead an active lifestyle. The future looks bright for Genoa Township, with the Parks Advisory Committee dedicated to identifying further areas of improvement to enhance the residents’ quality of life.

The Township has initiated a survey to obtain input on this future, and will be accepting responses through the end of April. That survey can be accessed and completed here.

Currently, the township has six parks under its purview, namely McNamara, Freeman, Center Green, Hilmar, Jaycox, and Worthington Gardens. However, properties such as CharMar Ridge, Mud Hen Marsh, and others are not a part of the survey, as they are owned and operated by partner entities.
