The Genoa Township Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of James McMillin as the community’s next Police Chief, succeeding Chief Stephen Gammill, who is set to retire on December 15.

“It is evident how deeply dedicated Deputy Chief McMillin is to the Genoa Township community,” said Trustee Renee Vaughan. “As Chief, his organizational strategy will be one of high-level, proactive public service.”

The important decision was made easier due to years of thoughtful succession planning and mentorship. McMillin began his career as a Patrol Officer for Genoa Township in 2000 and steadily progressed through the ranks, most recently serving as Deputy Chief. Meanwhile, he built his resume with experience serving on the Delaware County SWAT Team, completing leadership training, and the FBI National Academy. He holds multiple degrees in criminal justice and a Master’s in Homeland Security Administration.

“Over the past 23 years, I have studied the Genoa Township community as meticulously as I have my knowledge of policing,” said Deputy Chief McMillin. “Residents and police have formed a model partnership here that I am committed to furthering; it’s an honor to be promoted to serve as Police Chief.”

The promotion of Deputy Chief McMillin into the role of Police Chief ensures continuity for Genoa Township residents who are accustomed to a high standard of service from its Police Department.

“I am confident that under McMillin’s strong and skilled leadership, Genoa Township Police will continue to ensure that every community member feels valued and protected,” stated Chief Gammill.

The swearing-in ceremony for Deputy Chief McMillin will take place with outgoing Chief Gammill in attendance as his last formal duty. Adhering to longstanding tradition, Deputy Chief McMillin’s wife, Meghan, will play an important role during the event of pinning on the new Chief’s badge. It will take place on Friday, December 15 at 4:00 PM at the Police Department, 6921 Big Walnut Road..
