COSI, Cedar Point Taking Divergent Paths

By: 1808Delaware

It was a sobering set of statistics coming out of the Ohio Department of Health on Wednesday.

At the same time, there were signs that Ohioans are continuing to cope with the uncertainty and embrace some of the traditional aspects of a Buckeye summer, albeit with a mask and/or social distancing.

Some 1,277 new cases were announced, with 890 hospitalized, up 39 from the day before. This was the fourth highest daily total of the entire COVID-19 pandemic, and ripples from recent increases have been felt around the state.

In Columbus, COSI’s plans for a July 15 reopening were put on hold, the Dispatch reported on Wednesday.

In Sandusky, the venerable Cedar Point amusement park continued to plan a phased opening beginning on Thursday, with Season, Gold, and Platinum Passholders being the first to join in the fun, with other guests arriving on July 11.

Health and safety protocols in place at Cedar Park will include required reservations to maintain limited capacity numbers (starting at approximately 25% and increasing through the summer); health and temperature screenings; mandatory face coverings for staff and guests over 2; and required social distancing.

There will be four “RelaxZones,” where guests can temporarily remove masks. As shared by the park, “Additional protocols include touchless transactions, limited guest/associate contact, enhanced cleaning procedures in high-touch areas, dining locations, hotel rooms and restrooms, capacity management through the park and additional hand sanitization stations. “

Many Delaware County attractions continue to reopen with safety protocols in place. The best source for general information on these is to contact each venue directly.
