A familiar voice in Delaware County history will take center stage this spring as the Delaware County Historical Society launches a five-part evening series featuring longtime historian and storyteller Brent Carson. Held in the welcoming setting of The Barn at Stratford, the series offers a rare opportunity to hear firsthand accounts, reflections, and lesser-known stories that have shaped the community.
A storyteller rooted in place
For many in Delaware County, Brent Carson is more than a historian. He is a trusted guide to the past, someone who has spent years collecting, preserving, and sharing the stories that define the region. As President Emeritus of the Delaware County Historical Society, Carson has played a central role in connecting residents with their shared heritage. This new series builds on that legacy. Rather than formal lectures, these evenings are designed as conversations, blending narrative, memory, and insight in a way that feels personal and immediate.
Five evenings, five perspectives
The series unfolds across five Wednesday evenings, each with its own theme and tone:
April 22 – Wrong Place, Wrong Time
May 6 – Whatever Happened to…?
May 20 – Celebrities Passing Through and Why They Were Here
June 3 – The Characters We Remember
June 17 – Memories of …
Each program runs from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, offering a concise but engaging hour that fits easily into a weeknight schedule. Together, the sessions trace a wide arc, from moments of chance and misfortune to the larger personalities and quiet figures who have left their mark on the county.
An intimate setting for shared history
The location adds to the experience. The Barn at Stratford – Carriage Room, at 2690 Stratford Road, provides a setting that feels both relaxed and connected to the county’s rural and architectural heritage. It is the kind of place where stories resonate a little more deeply.
That sense of place is central to the series. These are not abstract histories. They are grounded in Delaware County’s streets, buildings, and people.
Accessible and community-focused
The full five-evening series is priced to encourage participation, with tickets set at $45 for members of the Historical Society and $55 for non-members. Registration is required, with sign-up available through Eventbrite. Support from the Delaware County Foundation has helped make the series possible, including funding for audio-visual equipment and internet access, ensuring that presentations are both clear and accessible.
For those who have followed Brent Carson’s work over the years, this series is a continuation of something familiar. For others, it may be an introduction. Either way, it promises evenings that are as engaging as they are informative, rooted firmly in the history of Delaware County and brought to life through one of its most dedicated voices.
