The county will be focusing on one of its favorite sons next week when the Delaware County Historical Society holds its Annual Meeting at The Barn at Stratford.

During the meeting, information on Society activities and finances will be shared and an election of Trustees will take place.

Those attending will also hear featured speaker Christie M. Weininger, Executive Director of the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museum. Weininger will speak on “Rutherford B. Hayes During the Civil War.”[widgets_on_pages id=1]

According to the Society website, “Through lively and heartbreaking letters and diary entries, this presentation will share the war experience through Rutherford’s eyes: the near misses, the camaraderie among the soldiers, and why he thought the Union generals weren’t aggressive enough…Learn how the Civil War profoundly affected the couple who would go on to become president and first lady of the United States.

Those attending will also hear about the “Hayes Comes Home” initiative.

Doors will open at 6:30 PM, and the meeting will be called to order at 7:00 PM. Members are expected and the public is warmly invited to attend our Annual Meeting and program. The program is free and open to the public, however there will be an opportunity to make a donation, which will help defray the operating expenses of the Society.
