1808Delaware has expanded our coverage to highlight attractions and events within easy driving distance of Delaware Countians in a series called “In Our Backyard.” This is in addition to our regular coverage of Delaware County happenings. Today, we continue a focus on places you can experience from your own home during all things COVID-19.
Are you looking for additional resources for your kids that are educational, entertaining, and accessible from home? Two well-known institutions in Columbus, very familiar to Delaware Countians, have answers for you.
Take COSI, for instance. Through “COSI Connects,” the science museum’s at home discovery and learning online portal, kids can watch videos and engage in accompanying hands-on activities to explore new places and answer questions
Did you know, for instance, that the ice in Nationwide Arena, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets, is created each September and stays through May? Kids can watch a video featuring a Blue Jackets player and then create their own frost using a glass, ice, tap water, a paper towel, and salt.
Another area institution, the Ohio History Connection, is offering Learn at Home videos that are well-produced and offered on different pages according to age.
Children that have an interest in archaeology, or museums — even graveyards — can learn more about the subject. Science and history combine on such topics as the use of flesh eating beetles used in cleaning skeletons for display.
Lesson plans are also available for use in instruction.
At the bottom of the Learn at Home page is a list of additional museums and places where similar material can be found.
