Special to 1808Delaware from Friends of the Delaware County District Library

Central Ohio is about to experience a unique blend of literature and libations. On Monday, October 23, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, the Friends of the Library will host an event called “Authors and Ales” at the Ill Mannered Brewing Company in Powell. The event will feature three local authors—Amy Butcher, Lee Martin, and Thao Thai—who will share insights into their writing processes.

Kickstart Your NaNoWriMo Journey

The timing couldn’t be better, as the event serves as a kickoff for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Whether you’re an aspiring writer or an avid reader, this is a golden opportunity to mingle with accomplished authors and get a head start on your own NaNoWriMo project.

Meet the Authors

  • Amy Butcher: The Director of Creative Writing at Ohio Wesleyan University, Amy is the author of “Mothertrucker,” a captivating tale about finding joy on America’s loneliest road.
  • Lee Martin: A Pulitzer Prize finalist for his work “The Bright Forever,” Lee currently teaches at The Ohio State University. His latest book, “The Glassmaker’s Wife,” delves into the realm of historical crime.
  • Thao Thai: A resident of Lewis Center, Thao is a debut author whose book “Banyan Moon” was recently featured in the Read With Jenna book club.

Tickets, Tacos, and Tidbits

Tickets are priced at $25 for the general public and $20 for Friends of the Library members. Doors will open at 6:00 PM, and the program will commence at 6:30 PM. Books from the featured authors will be available for purchase from local retailer Beanbag Books. To add a culinary twist to the evening, the Tacomania food truck will be on-site. So, come with an appetite for both words and food!

The evening’s conversation will be moderated by David Weaver, the Executive Director of Ohioana. His expertise will undoubtedly enrich the dialogue and make the event a memorable one for all attendees.
