Lovers of feathered friends join together each month as the Delaware County Bird Club holds get-togethers at Deer Haven park on selected Monday evenings.

Anyone interested in birds is welcome to attend, and all ages are welcome. Each meeting features a different speaker covering exciting birding-related topics, and attendees can share news of their own bird sightings. Doors open at 6:30 PM with the program beginning at 7 PM.

On January 27, join Matthew Shumar, OBCI Program Coordinator,  whowill speak on “The Ohio Bird Conservation Initiative: A Collaborative Approach to Regional Bird Conservation.”

Since its founding in 2004, the Ohio Bird Conservation Initiative (OBCI) has actively engaged state and federal wildlife agencies, non-profit groups, universities, museums, businesses, and private citizens to address avian conservation issues in all habitats. Matthew Shumar, OBCI Program Coordinator, will discuss OBCI’s programs, associated research, and how you can become involved in bird conservation.

On  February 24, the speaker will be a senior student at The Ohio State University, Tyler Ficker, as he speaks on “Birding in the Arctic Tundra” Listen to Ficker shares experience birding in the northernmost areas of the United States, Barrow and Nome, Alaska.  During the summer season, birders can enjoy non-stop viewing thanks to the continual presence of daylight illuminating the Arctic tundra. These unique destinations are great places to see jaegers, loons, eiders, wagtails, wheatears, bluethroats, Arctic warblers and variety of shorebirds.
