On a brisk spring day, Delaware’s community spirit was vividly captured in the array of photographs lining the walls of the Noyes Cultural Arts Center at Boardman Arts Park. The new exhibit, “Diversity in Delaware,” which opened on April 28, celebrates the rich tapestry of life in Delaware. Featuring winning entries from a local photography contest, the exhibit paints a picture of a community that thrives on its diversity, highlighting scenes from the Second Ward neighborhood and the vibrant Ohio Wesleyan University campus.

An Evening of Art and Connection

The unveiling event was not just an exhibition but a celebration of local talent and community bonds. Attendees enjoyed the first look at the impactful photography, interacted with the artists, and shared stories of the places and faces that define Delaware. The event underscored the park’s role as a cultural hub, where art and community intersect in dynamic displays.

The Park: A Green Canvas

Nestled at 154 W. William St., Boardman Arts Park stands as a testament to the power of community initiative and artistic passion. Transformed from the grounds of the former West/Boardman Elementary School, the park today thrives with over 100 unique artworks. It boasts walking paths, benches, a gazebo, and interactive installations like a Musical Waterfall and an A-Mazing Garden. Since its inception in 2017, the park has been a volunteer-driven endeavor, nurtured by donations and grants.

A Continuum of Cultural Celebrations

Boardman Arts Park is renowned for its rotating art exhibits, each designed to reflect and enrich the local culture. The “Diversity in Delaware” exhibit is the latest chapter in the park’s ongoing narrative of celebrating diversity through art. These exhibits not only provide a platform for local artists but also foster a sense of inclusivity and understanding within the community.

The Lasting Impact of Public Art

The role of public art in shaping community identity cannot be overstated. At Boardman Arts Park, each piece of art and every event is a building block in the cultural landscape of Delaware, bridging gaps between diverse community segments. The park has become a central gathering place, reflecting the historical and contemporary facets of the city—from the historical Northwest Neighborhood to the bustling downtown business center and the academically spirited Ohio Wesleyan University.
