The move was anticipated after Governor Mike DeWine recently stated that the state’s COVID-19 curfew could be lifted if hospitalizations continued to hold steady or drop at or below 2,500 for seven straight days.
On Thursday at noon, that target was met and the Governor lifted the curfew which, until recently, had required Ohioans to stay home between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
In fact, the Governor shared about that target, “We’ve blown through that!”
After its initial imposition in November, the time was extended an hour to 11:00 PM in late January.
Over the last two weeks, the weekly rolling average of new cases has fallen from over 5,100 cases per day to just over 3,100. On Monday, there were 2,012 new hospitalizations.
Few business owners are as happy about this development than Ohio’s restaurants and bars. The curfew, which cut into business receipts, was in place for a total of 84 days.
There was a word of caution shared, however, in that the curfew may return if cases and hospital admissions begin to rise again.
