In a move to enhance its park system, the City of Powell has begun the creation of the Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Master Plan. This strategic plan aims to guide developments for the next two decades, taking into consideration the city’s recent population growth and evolving community needs. At its core, the Master Plan seeks to create a vibrant, accessible park system that resonates with the lifestyles of Powell’s residents today and anticipates the demands of tomorrow.

Engaging the Community

Central to the success of the Master Plan is community involvement. Powell’s residents are encouraged to actively participate in shaping the future of their local parks and recreational facilities. To facilitate this, the city has outlined multiple avenues for public input, including both in-person and online forums. The highlight of this participatory approach is the upcoming public meeting on May 15. This session aims to capture diverse perspectives on the recreational needs and aspirations of the Powell community.

Expert Guidance

To ensure the Master Plan is both visionary and practical, Powell has partnered with a team of experts. Leading the initiative is MKSK, specializing in park planning and community engagement. They are joined by Pros Consulting, who bring insights into park management, Champlin Architects, experts in facility design, and the ETC Institute, which will conduct statistically valid surveys to gather comprehensive community feedback.

Timeline and Milestones

The planning and execution of the Master Plan are mapped out over a 14-month period, during which key milestones will be marked to ensure progress and alignment with community expectations. This schedule is designed to keep the project on track while allowing ample opportunity for public engagement and feedback, ensuring that the final outputs reflect the true needs and wishes of Powell’s residents.

By charting a course for future development that aligns with the desires and needs of its citizens, Powell is set to not only enhance its park facilities but also enrich the community’s quality of life. With expert guidance and a commitment to public involvement, the city looks forward to turning visions into reality, making Powell a benchmark for others to follow in park and recreational planning.
