Have you been able to catch a “zoovie” this summer?

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium have been showing films in a “spin” on the drive-in movie experience. Each is a family-friendly movie shown on the“big screen set up in the Zoo’s northeast parking area.

Showing this weekend and next:

  • Friday, July 3 – The Goonies
  • Saturday, July 4 – Captain America: Civil War
  • Friday, July 10 – Wonder Park
  • Saturday, July 11 – Happy Gilmore

Each of these films will have two showings — one at 5:30 PM, and one at 9:30 PM.

As shared by the Zoo, “This favorite family pastime is the perfect way to get out of the house while still enjoying a socially-safe activity together.

The movies will play on a large LCD screen, which allows families to see the movie even before sunset. All vehicles will be directed into parking spaces to ensure every other space is occupied to allow for appropriate distancing between vehicles. Guests may either sit in their vehicle or outside of their vehicle on the driver side only.

The movie’s audio will be played through an FM radio station. It is recommend that guests bring a portable radio or Bluetooth speaker to use with a smartphone radio app. Movies will play rain or shine, but guests may request a raincheck.

There will be limited concessions available, but for an additional $20, guests can add-on a “Zooper Snack Pack” that includes four bottled beverages and two bags of popcorn. Movie goers can bring in their own food and beverages while keeping in mind to take all debris and other belongings with them when they leave.”

Consistent with state health guidelines, face coverings will be worn by employees and are recommended for guests. Hand sanitizer and portable restrooms, cleaned and disinfected often, will be available.

Columbus Zoo members receive discounted admission at $25 per vehicle and includes one free bag of popcorn with their ticket. Guests who are not Columbus Zoo members can purchase a ticket for $30 per vehicle. Both non-Zoo members and Columbus Zoo members can save $10 when they purchase admission for two movies per weekend. Admission to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is not included.

Drive-In ZOOvies is presented by G&J Pepsi with event sponsor support from Raising Cane’s, Wendy’s and GermainCars.com.
