Not to spoil the holidays, but just so that you are prepared we are sharing information about Christmas tree disposal in Delaware County ahead of time.

The City of Powell has shared news on the subject of disposal of Christmas trees after the holidays. According to the City website,

“Rumpke will collect Christmas trees for disposal during regularly scheduled trash pick-up for City of Powell residents.Trees more than four feet tall must be cut in half, and all pieces of the tree must then be tied together for collection. Trees should not be placed in plastic bags and should be free from all decorations. Residents should place the tree by the curb with regular trash for collection.

As a reminder, Rumpke observes Christmas and New Year’s Day. Collection will be delayed by one day the weeks of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 for all customers.”

In Delaware, Christmas trees are considered yard waste. As such, they will be collected during the first full week after the New Year’s holiday. Trees and greenery will also be collected during scheduled refuse collection days through the end of January. All trees must be cleaned of all stands, lights, decorations, and plastic bags.

We will be updating this information and sharing it again late next week.
