This week, the City of Delaware shared a reminder that residents check that nearby gutters and drains are free of leaves and debris so the storm drains can do their job.
If you place leaves in yard waste bags or in receptacles and set at curbside on your regular trash collection day, the City will pick them up. Our curbside crews will be collecting bagged leaves or those in bins through the week of December 14.
Remember that yard waste includes lawn trimmings, leaves, vines, brush, and garden waste. Yard waste does NOT include non-biodegradable material. The City provides this service on the scheduled refuse collection day from mid-April through mid- December.
Loose yard waste must be placed in biodegradable bags or 32-gallon containers with handles, marked for “Yard Waste” disposal.
Stickers to designate cans for yard waste are free of charge at the City Utility Office in City Hall or by contacting the Customer Service Request Line at 740-203-1810 or here. Biodegradable leaf bags may be purchased at most grocery or hardware stores.
All other yard waste must be bundled and tied with a biodegradable string in dimensions not to exceed 4 feet in length and 18 inches in diameter and weighing less than 50 pounds. Sod is accepted provided the bag or container and contents do not exceed 50 pounds. Never pile leaves in the street, curb lawn or gutter. Leaves must be in a biodegradable lawn/leaf bag, or in a waste container.
