The City of Delaware is gearing up for a significant infrastructure improvement initiative as it embarks on its annual roadway resurfacing and reconstruction program. With the responsibility of maintaining 193 miles of combined highway, collector, and local residential streets, the City is determined to enhance road quality and ensure the safety and convenience of its residents and visitors.

Maintaining a well-connected and robust road network is crucial for any thriving community, and the City of Delaware is leaving no stone unturned in its mission to achieve precisely that. With the support of various funding sources, this year’s resurfacing and reconstruction program will span a total of 2.80 miles of roadway through a process known as mill & overlay, along with a reconstruction of 0.97 miles of roadway.

The streets lined up for rejuvenation under this year’s program have been carefully selected to address the community’s needs effectively. The targeted roads include:

1. Cobblestone Drive (Hayfield to Rock Creek)

2. Grand Circuit Boulevard (Lachance Ct. to Warrensburg Rd.)

3. Bernard Avenue (Washington St. to Sandusky St.)

4. S. Washington Street (Bernard Ave. to Park Ave.)

5. Woodrow Avenue (Magnolia to Poplar Bend)

6. Poplar Bend (Woodrow to Sandusky Street)Undertaking such an extensive infrastructure project requires a substantial investment. To ensure its success, the City of Delaware is harnessing multiple funding sources. The local City budget allocates funds for this essential endeavor, along with contributions from the Ohio Public Works Commission and Delaware County grant funding.

Additionally, the City diligently submits a grant application for federal Community Development Block Grant funding every two years, further supplementing the project’s financial needs.

The resurfacing and reconstruction work is scheduled to take place between July and September. Throughout the project’s duration, the City of Delaware is committed to maintaining open lines of communication with its residents. For real-time updates, progress reports, and any necessary alerts, residents are encouraged to visit the Access Delaware Facebook page, which will serve as a valuable resource.

For any inquiries or concerns related to the roadwork or the project in general, residents can easily get in touch with the City through email.
