Gov. DeWine announced this past week that senior centers may open at a reduced capacity beginning September 21 if the facilities can meet certain safety standards outlined in a forthcoming health order.

SourcPoint has spent the past several months creating a reopening plan that protects the health and safety of its participants, volunteers, and staff, and minimizes the spread of COVID-19.

“We are confident we are prepared to meet—and exceed—the guidelines set forth by the Ohio Dept. of Health with regard to capacity, cleaning, and so forth,” said Fara Waugh, SourcePoint’s executive director. “However, the governor’s mention of a requirement for baseline testing of all staff and participants is concerning. The fact that testing is not widely available and results are often delayed presents a significant challenge to overcome.”

As of this morning, the Ohio Dept. of Health has yet to post the related health order.

As SourcePoint receives more details and finalizes its reopening plans, more information will be made available at MySourcePoint.org/restart.
