Spring is in the air—and so is the spirit of gardening at the Orange Branch of the Delaware County District Library. From now through April 30, green thumbs and curious beginners alike are invited to participate in a community-centered Spring Seed Swap. Thanks to the generous support of the Delaware County Master Gardener Association, visitors can browse and take home free seed packets to kickstart their growing season.

No Registration, No Cost—Just Seeds and Smiles

The Seed Swap is refreshingly simple: drop in during library hours, explore a wide array of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, and take home what inspires you. There’s no registration, no cost, and no pressure—just an open invitation to get your hands in the soil and your garden growing.

What Is a Seed Swap, Anyway?

A seed swap is more than just a casual exchange. It’s a celebration of sustainability, shared knowledge, and community connection. Gardeners of all levels gather to swap seeds—sometimes rare heirlooms, open-pollinated gems, or even commercially produced varieties. It’s a chance to diversify your garden while building relationships rooted in a love of growing things.

Why Participate? The Perks of the Seed Swap

  • Grow Your Community
Whether you’re chatting about tomato varieties or composting techniques, seed swaps bring people together. They’re fertile ground for new friendships and shared gardening wisdom.
  • Save Money
Starting a garden doesn’t have to break the bank. By picking up free seeds, you can grow your plot without a trip to the garden center.
  • Boost Biodiversity
Swapping seeds introduces new plant varieties into local gardens, strengthening the genetic diversity of your crops and contributing to a more resilient ecosystem.
  • Celebrate Culture Through Seeds
Some seeds carry stories from different regions and traditions. Sharing them is a meaningful way to pass on heritage and culinary history.

Plan Your Visit and Plant the Future

The Spring Seed Swap is open now through April 30 at the Orange Branch Library—just in time to prepare your garden for a vibrant season ahead. Whether you’re growing salad greens, sunflowers, or something a little unexpected, this is your chance to plant with purpose and join a community of fellow growers.

Dig into the joy of gardening. Your spring starts here. 🌱
