As spring brings its signature mix of rain and warming temperatures, Orange Township is bustling with activity. From preparing parks and recreation facilities to progressing on annual road improvements, here’s what’s happening around the township.
Parks and Recreation
The Orange Township Parks Maintenance Department is in full swing, gearing up parks and the Aquatic Center for the influx of visitors expected this season. Pool memberships for the 2024 season are now available for purchase online. New members can pick up their fobs and have their membership photos taken at the Aquatic Center on Friday, May 17th, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. After this date, they can collect their fobs anytime during the pool’s operating hours, starting on May 24th.
Cricket enthusiasts in Orange Township can take advantage of two cricket pitches. The first pitch, constructed around 2019, is located at North Road Park. The second, completed in 2023, is at Alum Creek State Park near the dam. At a recent Board of Trustees meeting on March 20th, residents involved in cricket presented their tournament trophy and expressed gratitude to township officials and staff for their support.
Annual Road Improvements
The road improvements across Orange Township are funded by the .5 mil Road Levy, approved by the community, which helps maintain over 112 miles of township roads. This spring, repairs to curb ramps have begun in preparation for road resurfacing slated to occur during the summer. The roadwork will be coordinated with the Delaware County Engineer’s Office, and schedules for upcoming roadwork will be shared through Orange Township’s media outlets to keep residents informed.
Additionally, the first phase of the Bale Kenyon Road widening project is nearing completion, with final paving expected around early May. This marks the end of phase 1, with phases 2 and 3 to follow. Phase 2, which includes utility relocation between East Powell Road and Pine Ridge Drive, is underway and will continue through the summer months.
Veterans Memorial
Work on the Veterans Memorial is progressing, with recent landscaping installations indicating continued progress. However, the project’s dedication has been postponed due to unexpected delays. Updates will be available in June. If you’re interested in honoring a veteran with an engraved brick before the dedication, be sure to place your order by May 5th. The township plans to offer this opportunity and add bricks to the memorial for many years to come. To order an engraved brick, you can scan the QR code in the township’s materials.
