OhioHealth and Columbus Oncology & Hematology Associates are collaborating to bring expert clinical care and vital cancer support services to Westerville, close to where patients live and work.

The new Westerville Cancer Center will bring a full spectrum of integrated and patient-focused care to the communities it serves.

“This collaboration will allow patients to receive many of their treatments and services in one place, often on the same day,” said Praveen Dubey, MD, vice president, OhioHealth Cancer Care. “We are excited to work with Columbus Oncology again to bring the Westerville Cancer Center to this community, which will be the only place for oncology infusion in Westerville.”

The Westerville Cancer Center is the second building alignment between OhioHealth and Columbus Oncology & Hematology Associates.

“After the recent success of the Dublin Cancer Center, we are excited about continuing our collaboration with OhioHealth,” said Peter Kourlas, MD, Columbus Oncology physician and treasurer. “The location in Westerville will serve to add a new dimension to neighborhood cancer care and bring comprehensives services close to home, not only for Westerville, but for Lewis Center, Powell and New Albany,” Dr. Kourlas said.

The Westerville Cancer Center will be located at the OhioHealth Westerville Medical Campus, 300 Polaris Parkway, where Columbus Oncology and Hematology Associates will lease more than 15,000 square feet of space in the approximately 20,000 square foot facility. All physicians are medical staff members at OhioHealth and most are MD Anderson Cancer Network® certified. Columbus Oncology, which has provided cancer care to central Ohio patients for more than 37 years, comprises a group of 17 physicians who specialize in every type of cancer and hematology diagnosis.

Patients at the Westerville Cancer Center will have the opportunity to enroll in clinical trials, receive infusions during extended hours and be seen at a high-risk cancer clinic. Other services include:

  • Supportive Cancer Care:
  • Navigation
  • High-Risk Cancer Clinic
  • Social Work
  • Dietitian
  • Integrative
  • Precision Medicine
  • Genetic Counseling
  • Infusion Services
  • Imaging
  • Lab Services
  • Physician Practices (breast and cancer surgeons, colorectal, surgical oncology)
  • Columbus Oncology Medical Oncology and Hematology
  • Cold Cap therapy to reduce hair loss in some chemotherapy patients
  • Research and Clinical Trials
  • Short Stay for blood transfusion

Patients will receive their care in a tranquil environment, with finishes designed to be light, bright and calming. A rooftop sculpture garden will be backlit by windows, allowing sunlight to evoke the feeling of the garden being filled with light and life.

“We are extremely excited to provide the best possible integrative cancer care in a setting that is patient-focused and reassuring,” Dr. Dubey said. “Our new center brings home OhioHealth’s mission to improve the health of those we serve.”

Dr. Kourlas said Columbus Oncology’s oncologists and staff members are dedicated to giving patients and their families a sense of reassurance, hope, and empowerment from the very start. “Part of our mission is to make each patient’s medical journey as seamless as possible.”

The Westerville Cancer Center is slated to open in the spring of 2023. The building was designed by Andrews Architects, Inc., and is being built by Adena Corporation. DesignGroup is collaborating with OhioHealth on the project.
