Powell City Council has announced the appointment of Ferzan Ahmed to City Council. Ahmed will fill the seat recently resigned by former Council member Frank Bertone, and will serve until the next regularly scheduled municipal election in November 2023. At that time, voters will select a successor that will serve the remainder of the unexpired term which ends December 31, 2025.

Ahmed is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with the National Society of Professional Engineers with an extensive career in infrastructure development and public service. He has served on the City of Powell’s Planning and Zoning Commission since January 2022.

“Ferzan’s expertise in project management and Ohio infrastructure will serve the city well in his duties as a Council member,” stated Powell Mayor Dan Swartwout. “We look forward to working with Ferzan and welcome his talents and commitment to serving Powell.”

Currently serving as the executive director of the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, Ferzan Ahmed oversees more than 850 employees and an annual budget of more than $350 million in pursuit of his objective to increase safety, improve the quality of work life, enrich the customer experience, sustain strong financial stewardship, and maintain excellent system conditions.

Previously, Ahmed has served as vice president/Ohio practice leader of AECOM, county administrator for Delaware County, and several positions within the Ohio Department of Transportation District Six including deputy director, acting administrator, project manager, project engineer, and area engineer.
