The City of Powell’s Community Engagement Department presented its October 2024 Monthly Report at the City Council meeting on October 15, highlighting projects to enhance communication, public engagement, and local business development. The city aims to boost connectivity between residents, businesses, and city administration.

Strategic Communication and Website Launch

Powell is developing a strategic communications plan to optimize information sharing across the community. The plan involves evaluating current practices and collaborating with stakeholders to improve communication. A new website is set to launch in mid-November, featuring updated content, user-friendly e-forms via the OpenForms platform, and improved navigation. City staff reviewed 80 webpages for accuracy and consistency, and the website was previewed by the Operations Committee before final trainings were completed.

Social Media Campaigns and Community Awareness

Powell is using social media to educate and engage residents. The “Code Enforcement 101” campaign introduces important city regulations, with October focusing on code violations and next month on permit requirements. A recent police hiring campaign reached 12,000 people on Instagram and Facebook, resulting in 894 clicks on the job posting. Over the past 90 days, social media engagement has significantly increased, including a 73.6% rise in Facebook reach and a 100% increase in Instagram link clicks.

Supporting Local Businesses and Community Growth

The city is promoting local businesses through a new video series featuring Local Roots and Azteca, both celebrating 15 years in the community. The Community Engagement Department also wrapped up a six-week video campaign featuring City Manager Andy White and Mayor Tom Counts, focusing on City Council goals such as downtown expansion. The most popular video, highlighting downtown amenities and walkability, received approximately 1,200 views on Instagram and Facebook.

Upcoming Events and Community Initiatives

The grand opening of Powell’s new pickleball courts is set for October 30 at 3:00 PM, featuring a ceremonial game and giveaways. The 2023 Annual Report will be delivered to residents this month, including links to financial reports and a QR code for easy access. An educational mailer from Rumpke will inform residents about new recycling carts, which will be delivered starting November 4. The Community Engagement Department continues to support growth, engagement, and accessibility through these ongoing projects.
