Fans of Whit’s Frozen Custard in Central Ohio have reason to celebrate as the company has opened a new location in Lewis Center, joining four other planned outlets in the region.

Whit’s Frozen Custard, a beloved dessert destination since its establishment in 2003, is known for its freshly made vanilla and chocolate custard, crafted into a variety of treats including milkshakes, sundaes, and floats. The company also offers a rotating selection of monthly, weekly, and daily flavors, allowing customers to constantly discover new favorites. An assortment of toppings adds to the customization, providing endless possibilities for unique dessert creations.

Frozen custard is a rich and creamy dessert that originated in the United States in the early 20th century. Unlike traditional ice cream, frozen custard is made with eggs in addition to cream and sugar, giving it a smooth and luxurious texture. The inclusion of egg yolks in the recipe is what distinguishes it from other frozen desserts, and also contributes to its characteristic velvety consistency and decadent taste. Frozen custard is typically churned at a slow pace to minimize air incorporation, resulting in a dense product. It is often served at a slightly warmer temperature than ice cream, enhancing its soft and silky mouthfeel. Whether enjoyed in a cone, cup, or as part of a sundae, frozen custard offers a unique and indulgent frozen dessert experience.

The journey of Whit’s Frozen Custard began in Granville amidst one of the coldest winters the state had seen. Despite the harsh weather conditions and initial confusion about what frozen custard was, Whit’s was destined to be a success. It was the brainchild of Chuck and Lisa Whitman, who combined Chuck’s experience in his father’s food service business with Lisa’s knowledge of ice cream from her family’s businesses to create a truly unique dessert offering.
