Special to 1808Delaware

Westerville families can register their incoming kindergarten students for the 2023-24 school year starting January 17.

Kindergarten is required for children before entering first grade; families may register their children for kindergarten if they will be five years old on or before Sept. 30.

WCSD offers half-day kindergarten and all-day kindergarten classes within each home school. All-day kindergarten is a fee-based, lottery program with tuition assistance available for those that qualify. Additional details are available online at www.wcsoh.org/ADK. To be included in the all-day kindergarten lottery, families must complete registration by March 17.

Kindergarten registration kicks off with Kindergarten 101 sessions, which will held at 6:30 p.m. on the following dates and at each elementary school:

  • January 10: Mark Twain, Pointview and Robert Frost
  • January 11: Annehurst, McVay and Minerva France
  • January 12: Fouse, Hawthorne and Wilder

Alcott, Cherrington, Huber Ridge and Whittier recently hosted Kindergarten 101 sessions. Families who were unable to attend can view a video presentation that includes details on the following topics:

  • registration
  • health information
  • an overview and expectations of the district’s kindergarten program
  • all-day kindergarten
  • the school calendar

Watch the presentation here.

Any family unsure of their current home school of attendance may search by address through the district’s interactive attendance area map at http://www.croppermap.com/westerville. If there are questions, please contact any WCSD elementary school, the Enrollment Center, or the Transportation Department at 614-797-5950.

The enrollment process begins with pre-registration online starting Jan. 17. As part of the application, parents must select an Application Review Date for their child’s application to be assigned to an enrollment specialist, who will work with the family, via email, to finalize the registration.
