Olentangy Schools has once again set the bar high, earning a prestigious five-star rating in the Ohio Department of Education’s 2023-24 school district report card. This marks the second consecutive year the district has achieved this top-tier recognition, cementing its reputation as a leader in educational excellence across the state.

Superintendent’s Pride in a Repeat Achievement

“Receiving an overall five-star rating as a district for the second consecutive year is something to be proud of,” said Superintendent Todd R. Meyer. “The state report card is just one indication of Olentangy’s educational excellence and student learning experience, and our staff will continue to facilitate maximum learning for every student, both within and outside of tested areas.”

The five-star rating reflects Olentangy’s continued dedication to not only meet but exceed the state’s rigorous academic standards. Meyer emphasized that while the report card highlights academic performance, the district’s commitment goes beyond test scores, focusing on comprehensive student growth and well-rounded learning experiences.

Performance Categories: Excellence Across the Board

The Ohio School Report Cards provide a comprehensive look at school and district performance through academic, financial, and learning opportunity data. For Olentangy Schools, the report card revealed a strong showing in multiple categories, including:

  • Academic Achievement: A five-star rating, signifying that the district far exceeds state expectations.
  • Early Literacy Standards: Another five-star rating, indicating robust support in developing foundational reading skills.
  • Closing Educational Gaps: The district’s efforts in addressing and bridging academic disparities earned it a five-star rating.
  • Graduation Rates: Olentangy Schools received the highest rating, reflecting a continued focus on preparing students for success after high school.

Additionally, the district received a four-star rating in progress, which measures the growth students make over the year. This rating indicates significant evidence that Olentangy students exceeded expectations in academic improvement.

A Focus on Personalized Learning Environments

Dr. Michelle Blackley, Chief Academic Officer for Olentangy Schools, highlighted how the district’s approach is reflected in the report card results.

“We are pleased that the state report card reflects Olentangy’s commitment to academic excellence,” Blackley stated. “Olentangy is one of just two districts in Ohio with over 10,000 students to earn five stars overall, and the only district over 10,000 students to receive five stars in the achievement component. This is a testament to the personalized learning environments our principals, teachers, and support staff create every day for students.”

The district’s achievement component, which focuses on student performance on state tests, is particularly noteworthy. Olentangy’s Performance Index (PI) score of 103.1 ranks 39th out of Ohio’s 607 school districts and 4th in central Ohio. This metric underscores the district’s consistency in meeting and surpassing academic goals, and it serves as a reflection of the dedication to fostering an environment where students thrive academically.

A Continued Commitment to Excellence

Olentangy Schools’ report card ratings come as no surprise to those familiar with the district’s mission. With a clear focus on nurturing academic success, the district has developed a reputation for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment tailored to meet each student’s needs.

With two consecutive five-star ratings, Olentangy Schools is poised to continue leading the way in Ohio’s educational landscape. The district remains committed to maintaining high standards while adapting to the evolving needs of its growing student body.
