As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session from 3:30-5 PM on Tuesday, October 13 in the Powell Police Department, 47 Hall Street. Members of the public can attend the public information session virtually through Zoom or in-person at the Powell Police Department, 47 Hall Street.

If for some reason a person cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone. The public may call (614) 396-3433 from 2-3:30 PM on Tuesday, October 13.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards. A copy of the Standards is available by contacting the assessors at (252) 341-3560.

Members of the community that would like to offer written comments about the Powell Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.

Verification by the team that the Powell Police Department meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence.

The Powell Police Department has been an accredited police agency since 2000. Accreditation is for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with the standards under which it was initially accredited.
