DACC Student Awarded Teen Driver Billboard Design Winner

The week of Oct. 20-26, 2019 is designated as National Teen Driver Safety Week and members of the SAFE Delaware County Coalition are using the week to bring awareness to an increasingly tragic subject.

For the second year, SAFE along State Farm Insurance sponsored a billboard design contest in honor of Teen Driver Safety Week for area high school students. Abbie Halderman, 17, a senior at Delaware Area Career Center won the contest with her design titled “InstaLife”. The new design will be located on the billboard on Central Avenue in Delaware. Halderman was also awarded a $500 Amazon gift card along with a voucher to attend Better Ohio Teen Drivers, Inc. More…



Risk Behavior Survey Being Conducted At Delaware County Schools

Hey, Young Adults: Can You Dig It?

The Delaware County Historical Society has announced its second summer camp of 2019.

Following its successful summer camp experience earlier this month looking at history through the lens of cemeteries, the Society is offering kids the opportunity to indulge in a bit of local archaeology.

Those aged 8 through 14 are invited to “Can You Dig It? Adventures in Archaeology” to be held the week of July 29 from Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM. More…

Middle Schoolers From Ten Counties Descend Upon Delaware

Everyone calls it “owl” for short, but the gifted-and-talented children who attend the Ohio Wesleyan/Junior League of Columbus (OWjL) camp each summer also call the weeklong program a life-changing experience that teaches them it’s OK to be smart.

Students invited to attend OWjL camp are nominated by principals, guidance counselors, or teachers from more than 120 middle schools in 10 central Ohio counties: Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Knox, Licking, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway, and Union counties. The sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders all have earned high test scores on nationally normed tests and demonstrated exceptional talent, creativity, or leadership. More…

SAFE Reminds Parents To Keep Kids Safe And Out Of Hot Cars

In 2018, 52 children died in hot cars, making it the deadliest year on record in the last 20 years. As warmer weather fast approaches, Safe Kids Worldwide and the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) are joining together to raise awareness about the importance of child reminder technology and the need for increased public education around the dangers of leaving children in hot cars.

“Close to 800 children have died in hot cars over the last 20 years, and each of those deaths was preventable,” said SAFE Delaware County Coordinator Jackie Bain. “We all have a role to play in preventing vehicular heatstroke in children. If you see a child alone in a car, take action and save their life.” More…

“Touch A Truck” Returns On June 8
