It’s already a busy year for Preservation Parks.
Several construction projects are transforming individual parks through enhancements and, in at least two cases, completely new attractions.
The five projects currently featured on its website include:
Char-Mar Ridge Parking Lot Expansion & Paving – The project will add an additional 38 spaces to the existing parking lot, including three new ADA compliant spaces.
McCammon Creek Park Stream Restoration – The project will restore approximately 1,250 lf of badly eroded stream channel that was previously ditched. The project will improve instream habitat conditions by restoring riffles and pools while improving fish and macroinvertebrate communities such as dragonflies, mayflies, etc. When completed, this project will reduce the silt and sediment and other non-point pollutant loads into McCammon Creek and Alum Creek.
Sycamore Run Park & Paddle Access – The 22 acre park will provide access for paddling and picnicking. Restoration plans include seeding native grasses and wildflowers as well as the planting of thousands of trees to reforest the former field/floodplain area.
Deer Haven Park Aviary – The aviary will provide park visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with birds of prey, including various owl species, turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks and more.
Hickory Woods Park – The park’s theme will be Inspiring Outdoor Exploration, and the park will feature a four-season picnic shelter for year-round programming and public rentals. An outdoor picnic area, sled hill and natural play areas will be adjacent to the shelter. Extensive trail systems with both gravel and primitive trail surfaces will lead visitors through the park to inspire exploration and discovery.
Preservation Parks has also announced the resumption of in-person programming this summer with the exception of the summer letterboxing program.
