The new Powell Community Concert Band – formerly known as the Greater Columbus Concert Band – is a performing arts nonprofit organization that now calls Powell their home location for practices and performances.
The band is scheduled to make their new debut as the Powell Community Concert Band during the final summer concert series from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27. The band will perform from 8-9 p.m. Delaware County’s Central Ohio Symphony will perform first from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
“The Powell Community Concert Band will help further our mission to provide excellent quality of life through events and programs as well as serve as Powell’s first community concert band,” said Mayor Frank Bertone. “We are excited the band chose to call Powell home.”
The band plans to hold indoor practices at the performing arts hall in Faith Life Church and partner with the city of Powell and other community organizations for performances being held in Village Green Park.
“Our community has expressed the need for more performing arts in recent community surveys,” said City Manager Andrew White. “The establishment of the Powell Community Concert Band is a step forward in answering this call and look forward to working together on upcoming events.”
“For the past several years the band has been looking for a location that we could call ‘home’,” said Dennis Wollam, director of the Powell Community Concert Band. “The band sees this as a wonderful opportunity for us to become an important part of the city of Powell and believe that together we can add to this vital and growing community.”
