COhatch, an Ohio-based company with a new approach to shared work, social, and family space, will be opening COhatch Shadyside and COhatch Waterfront in 2022, as part of its commitment to developing a network of spaces that will allow people to work, meet and live on their terms all over Pittsburgh.

The new locations will welcome community members in need of workspace, entrepreneurs, freelancers, startups, nonprofits and larger companies looking for satellite offices close to home. Members will have access to private offices, coworking, meeting rooms, event spaces, and lifestyle amenities, such as arcade rooms, movie theaters, restaurants, breweries and more.

And, as a part of COhatch’s innovative approach which allows for members to work out of other locations, members in the chain’s Delaware County COhatches will have another location from which to operate.

“Some of our main focuses at COhatch are breathing new life into old buildings, incorporating the history and culture of each community into its design and making it the center of gravity in the community for the next 50 years,” said Matt Davis, co-founder and CEO of COhatch. “We chose Pittsburgh as our next city because of the number of great neighborhoods and the strong support of its local community. It was an easy decision to head to Pittsburgh as the city closely aligns with what we do and what we value.”

COhatch’s Shadyside site was selected due to its location right in the heart of the neighborhood’s Walnut Street shopping and dining district, making it easy for COhatch members to blend work and life. The 13,000 sq. ft. facility, located at 5438 Walnut Street, will include private offices, coworking seats and a relaxing, social space, as well as some other elements that are still in the works.

With COhatch’s history of successfully helping malls recycle vacant retail spaces by transforming them into communities in which to work, meet and live, restoring the former GAP at The Waterfront was a no-brainer. The Waterfront is a vibrant and extremely walkable center that will now have an 11,157 sq. ft. COhatch site. The location will include private offices, coworking seats, a movie theater and more. Members will have a short commute from working at COhatch to the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and will have convenient access to the mall’s other amenities.

“We’re a lot more than just another shared workspace,” said Davis. “We aim to give our members the spaces, tools, resources and amenities to thrive in all parts of their lives. We’re heavily focused on the impact we have on our members and the communities we serve.”

Across its sites in Ohio, Indiana and Florida, COhatch supports communities through its Impact Programs, which provides scholarships to nonprofit organizations, startup companies, entrepreneurs and civic leaders. In 2021, COhatch donated more than $550,000 in services to this fund, an amount that will increase as the company expands to new cities like Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh additions, both expected to open by the end of 2022, will bring COhatch’s total number of locations open or under development to 29. Pittsburgh members will be able to use workspace at the company’s Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Springfield, Ohio, Indianapolis, Indiana and Tampa Bay, Florida locations.

COhatch plans to open a total of 500 locations in 50 cities across the U.S. by 2032.
