As energy-intensive businesses, including Intel, establish themselves in Delaware and Licking counties, upgrades to the power grid are necessary to accommodate new customers and maintain dependability.

AEP Ohio is organizing two open houses in early May to gather public input, which will help determine potential routes for power lines needed to fulfill the growing energy demand.

The company is considering an initial electrical enhancement involving the construction of a new 345-kilovolt transmission line connecting the Vassell Substation near Sunbury to new electrical facilities close to Green Chapel Road in New Albany.

While determining a possible route for this new power line, company officials will concurrently collect data to identify an additional power line corridor to address future electricity needs. The area under consideration for the potential lines encompasses Monroe, Jersey, and Hartford townships in Licking County; Berkshire, Harlem, and Trenton townships in Delaware County; Plain Township in Franklin County; and portions of New Albany and Johnstown.

To engage community members and landowners in the decision-making process, company officials will host two in-person open houses, as well as a virtual open house. Attendees are encouraged to learn more and provide their input on possible power line route alternatives. The same information will be presented at each open house event.

The meetings are scheduled as follows:

Date: Tuesday, May 2

Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Location: Johnstown High School Gymnasium

455 South Main Street, Johnstown

Date: Wednesday, May 3

Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Location: Sunbury Methodist Church

100 West Cherry Street, Sunbury

The events do not include a formal presentation, so attendees can arrive at any time to review area maps and talk with company representatives. Information gathered during the open houses helps determine a proposed solution, including any new power line routes.
