In an acknowledgment of athletic excellence, eight former Ohio Wesleyan University standouts have been immortalized on the North Coast Athletic Conference’s (NCAC) 40th Anniversary All-Decade men’s indoor track & field team. This honor, announced by the NCAC, not only celebrates the remarkable contributions of these athletes to the sport but also highlights Ohio Wesleyan’s significant impact on collegiate track & field in the region.
A Decade of Dominance
Spanning the years from 2014 to 2023, the All-Decade team selection criteria were stringent, reserved for athletes who achieved Player of the Year honors or earned at least three All-NCAC first-team nods during their collegiate careers. The athletes named from Ohio Wesleyan have not only met but exceeded these standards, showcasing the university’s tradition of fostering exceptional talent.
Standout Athletes and Their Achievements
The distinguished honorees include Ahmed Abdel Halim, Jayson Blankenship, Tommy Davis, Colin McShane, Nate Newman, Marquis Sena, John Sotos, and Adam Turner. Each has left an indelible mark on the NCAC’s history through their outstanding performances and leadership on and off the field.
- Ahmed Abdel Halim: Notably the 2016 Field Events Athlete of the Year, Abdel Halim excelled in the triple jump, long jump, and high jump, amassing five All-NCAC selections.
- Jayson Blankenship: The 2019 Field Events Athlete of the Year, Blankenship dominated the heptathlon and pole vault, securing three NCAC championships and six All-NCAC honors.
- Tommy Davis and Colin McShane: Both sprinters, Davis and McShane were recognized for their speed and agility, contributing to Ohio Wesleyan’s relay success and collecting multiple individual accolades.
- Nate Newman: A versatile athlete, Newman was a three-time Field Events Athlete of the Year, winning championships in the heptathlon, high jump, and long jump.
- Marquis Sena: Sena’s consistency in the 60-meter dash led him to three consecutive NCAC championships from 2018 to 2020.
- John Sotos and Adam Turner: Both Sotos and Turner showcased their endurance and speed in middle-distance and sprint events, respectively, winning multiple NCAC titles.
