The City of Delaware is actively working to enhance the public parking experience in the Downtown area for visitors, businesses, and residents alike. Understanding that convenient and accessible parking is crucial to a thriving downtown environment, the city is evaluating current parking conditions and exploring innovative solutions.

Current Parking Options

Downtown Delaware currently offers a mix of free and paid parking options:

Free Parking:

  • Time-Limited Free Parking: Available Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm with a maximum of 2 hours, enforced by Delaware Parking Control personnel.
  • No Time Limit Free Parking: Two lots on Spring Street and city parking lots No. 5 and No. 6 provide free parking with no time limits.

Paid Parking:

  • Hourly and Daily Rates: Available Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm at $1 per hour or $8 per day (as of April 1, 2024).
  • No Time Limit Paid Parking Zones: Available behind William Street United Methodist Church, between J. Gumbo’s and the BP gas station on William Street, behind Gallery 22, behind 1808 American Bistro, and along areas of West Central Avenue and North Union Street.
  • Monthly Permits: Available for $50 plus fees, allowing parking in designated red areas or any of the four city parking lots. Permits can be purchased via the ParkMobile app.

Payment Methods:

  • ParkMobile App: Pay by scanning QR codes or entering zone numbers.
  • Credit/Debit card, Coin, or Phone: Payments can also be made by calling 877-727-5301.
