If you’ve driven past Ohio Koi on Carters Corner Road before, you probably knew it as a working fish farm. As of March 10, it’s something more public-facing. The company has opened “Mega 1,” a new greenhouse retail space that significantly expands what visitors can see and buy on-site.
What’s Actually There
The new structure covers about 13,000 square feet, roughly a quarter acre, and includes 34 in-ground ponds and tanks ranging from around 500 to 20,000 gallons. The scale allows them to stock fish at very different sizes and price points.
Inventory is the main draw. About 6,000 koi were recently brought in from Japan, including higher-end fish, along with a wide range of domestically bred koi. There are also 15 to 20 varieties of fancy goldfish, displayed in dedicated tanks. For most visitors, it’s simply a chance to see a lot of fish in one place, which is not something you find easily in this part of Ohio.
How It’s Set Up for Visitors
This isn’t a traditional retail setup with shelves and aisles. The ponds are built into the floor, so you’re walking around and looking down into the tanks. There are also small garden-style elements and a designated “Koi Lounge” area, which slows the pace a bit and makes it easier to spend time there without feeling rushed.
Staff are available to answer practical questions about pond setup, maintenance, and fish care. That’s likely just as important as the inventory, especially for first-time buyers.
Who This Is For
There are really two audiences here.
One is the hobbyist or collector who is looking for specific types of koi or goldfish and is willing to spend for quality. The other is the homeowner who has been thinking about adding a pond or upgrading an existing one. For that group, being able to see different fish sizes, filtration setups, and materials in person is useful before making a decision.
Why It Matters
This kind of operation is a bit unusual for Delaware County. Most garden or pond-related purchases happen through landscapers or smaller retail setups. A greenhouse at this scale, focused almost entirely on koi and ornamental fish, gives the area something more specialized.
It also reflects how outdoor living has become a bigger priority for homeowners in the region. Water features are part of that, and Ohio Koi is clearly leaning into it.
