Outpatient Care Powell

From the OSU Wexner Medical Center

When The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Outpatient Care Powell opens on Aug. 3, patients in Delaware, Marion and Morrow counties will have expanded access to specialty and cancer care, advanced urgent care, behavioral health urgent care and other healthcare services closer to where they work and live.

The 208,000-square-foot facility is located at 7171 Sawmill Parkway, near Home Road in Powell. Costing just under $188 million, the facility includes a five-story medical office building connected to a two-story ambulatory healthcare center for outpatient endoscopy procedures, imaging, outpatient rehabilitation and physical therapy.

“Outpatient Care Powell extends Ohio State’s nationally ranked specialty care to a convenient community setting closer to where people live and work. Improved access to healthcare services can enhance outcomes and support long-term health. Our new facility also reflects our commitment to Ohio State’s land-grant mission and helps ensure the exceptional care we provide is accessible to all Ohioans,” said John J. Warner, MD, chief executive officer of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and executive vice president at Ohio State.

Patients in Powell and surrounding areas can access nearly every type of care in one location, with a facility designed for comfort and convenience that includes a retail pharmacy, laboratory services and a cafe.

Expanding network of outpatient care centers

Outpatient Care Powell is the third location to open in suburban Columbus as part of the medical center’s strategic expansion of outpatient services. Outpatient Care New Albany opened in August 2021 followed by Outpatient Care Dublin one year later.

“With comprehensive outpatient care centers in more suburban locations, the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center is extending patient-centered care beyond the traditional hospital setting, which improves access, reduces barriers and offers greater convenience for our patients. By providing a broad range of highly specialized clinical expertise in one location, we can better meet the unique needs of residents of Powell and all the communities we serve,” said Dan Like, chief administrative officer of Ohio State Ambulatory Services.

Comprehensive Cancer Care

Building upon the success of the James Outpatient Care facility that opened in 2023 in Columbus, world-class cancer care is coming to the top two floors of Outpatient Care Powell in September. Here, experts from The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) will treat breast, colorectal, gastrointestinal, lung, genitourinary and urologic cancers. Patients will also have access to routine screenings and other specialty services including clinical trials, genetic counseling, infusion, mammography, nutrition and oncology rehabilitation.

“This new patient care center reflects a clear reality: cancer care must keep evolving to meet a changing patient population,” said W. Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD, CEO of OSUCCC – James. “This expansion extends the full strength of the James, specialty expertise, leading-edge clinical trials and advanced, personalized care, into the community, making world-class cancer care more accessible, closer to home.”

Advanced Urgent Care

Advanced Urgent Care offers an alternative to the emergency department for serious but non-life-threatening conditions. Patients can walk in or schedule an appointment seven days a week. Treatment is led by emergency medicine physicians, providing higher-level care, advanced diagnostics and shorter wait times, often at a lower cost than an emergency department visit.

Behavioral Health Urgent Care

Behavioral Health Urgent Care provides rapid access for adults who need mental and behavioral health services until they can meet with their outpatient provider. It also offers help to those needing an appointment for urgent mental health needs. Behavioral Health Urgent Care is available on weekdays for walk-in care and scheduled appointments.

Heart Express Care (coming soon)

Beginning in early 2027, Heart Express Care will offer weekday evaluation appointments for non-life-threatening cardiac symptoms for adults. It is staffed by advanced practice providers from the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital who are experienced in diagnosing heart issues.

More than 20 other services will be offered at the Delaware County location, including behavioral health, endocrinology, lung and pulmonary care, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, optometry, orthopedics, podiatry, rheumatology, sleep medicine, spine care, sports medicine and urology. Surgical consults and more complex nonsurgical procedures, including endoscopy, also will be available.

“Outpatient Care Powell represents a significant investment in the health and well-being of our community,” said Powell City Manager Andy White. “Access to world-class health care close to home will enhance quality of life for Powell residents. Beyond expanding access to care, this brick-and-mortar investment will support approximately 600 new employees, representing the largest payroll in the city and is already generating additional economic development interest along the Home Road corridor. I look forward to the lasting positive impact this facility will have on our community for years to come.

Location and hours

Outpatient Care Powell is located at 7171 Sawmill Parkway, Powell, OH 43065. The facility will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
