At Monday evening’s meeting of Delaware City Council, some good news was shared with those in attendance by Health Commissioner Sheila Hiddleson of the Delaware General Health District.
Sharing that the District has “way outgrown” its current properties on Winter Street, Hiddleson conveyed the body’s hopes to relocate in the near future to a newly constructed facility within the city.
The District is currently in the hoped-for acquisition of nine acres on South Sandusky Street. Known as the former Leroy Jenkins property, the plan is to construct a 30,000 square foot primary building with room for a 10,000 square foot additional space if needed. Some 200 parking spaces would be included.
Hiddleson was thanked for the District Board of Health’s decision to stay in Delaware, and she responded by sharing the Board’s commitment to the city and area.
