Today, we share our regular look at the rate at which Delaware Countians have been playing their part in the 2020 US Census. We do so as the ability to respond will be closing soon.

As it turns out, the local response continues to be strong, with Delaware County having the third highest participation rate of any Ohio county.

On April 1, known as “Census Day” as the official count takes place on that date, the national rate of census returns was 36.2%, with Ohio’s pegged at 39.3%.

Currently, Ohio’s rate stands at 69.2%, approximately 4% higher than the national average.

The response rate for Delaware County is actually higher than all of its surrounding counties. Delaware County’s rate currently stands at 79.6%. Of contiguous counties, Union County is not far behind at 77.9%, while Morrow County’s is the lowest at 64.8%.

Individual cities and villages in the county had the following response rates:

  • Delaware — 77.0%
  • Sunbury — 79.9%
  • Powell — 85.4%
  • Westerville — 83.2%
  • Ashley — 57.7%
  • Shawnee Hills — 80.3%
