Winter stretches out slowly in Delaware County, the kind of season that invites a warm drink, a quiet corner, and a stack of books that finally get the attention they deserve. At the Delaware County District Library, that timing isn’t an accident. Their annual Winter Reading Club returns December 1 and runs through January 31, offering a simple promise: read what you enjoy, come back often, and let stories carry you through the coldest months.
How It Works
The club keeps things refreshingly straightforward. Anyone can join. Toddlers, teens, adults, grandparents. All you need is a Winter Reading Club bookmark, available at any library branch, on the library’s Winter Reading webpage, or tucked inside the winter issue of Check It Out.
Once you have one, the task is simple: complete four squares. They can be four books you’ve read or any mix of in-person and virtual programs you’ve attended. When it’s filled, return it to the library and choose which prize basket drawing you want to enter.
You’re not restricted by age. If you’re an adult who wants a shot at a kids’ basket filled with cheerful surprises, no one’s stopping you.
The Prize Baskets
Each branch has its own set of themed baskets for four age groups: 0–5, 6–12, teen, and adult. Inside you’ll find new books, library grab-bags, gift cards, and a few things the staff won’t reveal ahead of time.
There’s no limit on entries. If you’re a heavy reader or a frequent program-goer, you can keep turning in bookmarks until the final day. The more you complete, the better your odds.
What Happens Next
During the first week of February, staff at each location will draw the winning bookmarks and reach out to the lucky readers. Some call it a prize. Others call it motivation to finally tackle that growing to-be-read stack.
What Will You Be Reading?
That question is the heartbeat of the whole program. It doesn’t matter whether you gravitate toward thrillers, historical fiction, cookbooks, poetry, graphic novels, or picture books with a preschooler curled against your side. The club is a reminder that winter isn’t just something to get through. It’s something to read through.
