This year we’re continuing our look at unique events and attractions that are within an easy driving distance of Delaware County. We call these “Summer Road Trips.” Of course, we regularly feature the many extraordinary places to visit right here in Delaware County and encourage our readers to get out and experience what is on offer in our own backyard.

Celebrating Delaware County’s only native born US President, we always include a look at what’s taking place at the Hayes Presidential Library and Museum in Fremont, home to President and Mrs. Hayes’ magnificent house, Spiegel Grove. While closed for some time like the rest of the state’s museums and historic attractions, it has now reopened with heath and safety protocols in place.

According to the Center’s website, “The Hayes Home, museum and research library will be open from 9 AM to 5 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Hours for high-risk visitors are from 9 AM to noon on Thursdays.

Health guidelines established include additional cleaning and disinfecting, smaller capacities, the availability of sneeze guards, and required social distancing. Staff will wear facial coverings.

A reduced set of in person events are still taking place, including Spiegel Grove’s well-known verandah concerts. Upcoming concerts include:

July 22 at 6:30 PM — Nostalgia

August 5 at 6:30 PM — Matthew Ball aka “The Boogie Woogie Kid”

August 19 at 6:30 PM — North Coast Big Band

Also coming in late August will be a display of rarely-seen dresses of First Lady and OWU graduate Lucy Webb Hayes from August 21 to 30, celebrating Lucy’s 189th birthday on August 28.

More information on upcoming events can be found here.
