The change has been in the offing for quite a long time, but became official this week as the owners of the Columbus Dispatch announced that ThisWeek Community News, long a staple of suburban coverage, will cease publication as of January 26. The Dispatch announcement can be read here.

The news comes some months after the Delaware edition of ThisWeek suddenly ceased being published.

In the post, a Dispatch editor cited the need to concentrate resources on reporting on Columbus and Franklin County. As of today, the publication still covered news in several suburban and exurban towns north of Columbus, including Dublin, Westerville, Worthington, and “Olentangy.”

The move can be seen in the context of recent reductions in staffing and coverage by Gannett, the country’s largest newspaper chain and owners of the Dispatch. It’s also the latest domino to fall from the 2019 merger of GateHouse and Gannett, which brought leading papers across Ohio into common ownership.

Our story on that merger can be read here.
