Central Delaware County fans of casual Chinese American cuisine take heart – your trips to Polaris Parkway or Marion may soon be a thing of the past.

The City of Delaware Planning Commission approved a request Wednesday by Heights Venture Architects for a Combined Perliminary and Final Development Plan for a new Panda Express restaurant located on a bit over an acre of land at 1400 Sunbury Road in Delaware.

The area is an outparcel of the Glenwood Commons Shopping Center, and lies just east of the Meijer gas station. It is currently zoned B-3 PMU (Community Business District with a Planned Mixed Use Overlay District).

The new restaurant would be 2,600 square feet in size and would be faced with brick and Delaware blue-veined limestone on the bottom half. There would be no direct access from US 36/Ohio 37. 46 parking spaces would be included – only 35 are required by code.

According to its website, “On a mission to inspire better lives, Panda Express® is the largest Asian dining concept in the U.S. Family-owned and operated since 1983 by Co-Founders and Co-CEOs Andrew and Peggy Cherng… The restaurant brand has more than 2,200 locations and has introduced American Chinese cuisine to 12 international countries.

Powered by this global family of associates, Panda Cares®, Panda’s philanthropic arm, has raised more than $282 million and dedicated countless volunteer hours in bettering the health and education for over 13 million youths, as well as supporting communities in need since 1999. In 2020, the organization established the Panda Cares Scholars Program to provide the necessary funding, academic support and leadership development to help high school and college students learn, lead and thrive towards a bright future.

The matter now goes to Delaware City Council for final approval.
