A post on the Delaware Sears Hometown Store’s Facebook page Thursday shared some difficult pre-holiday news.

The store is closing, as are similar Sears Hometown outlets across the country. As reported earlier this year in the Wall Street Journal, the move is being made as the chain continues to experience very large losses.[widgets_on_pages id=1]

The Delaware store, located at 1764 Columbus Pike, joins the Sears Hometown Stores in Wooster and Coshocton, according to the company website.

The chain was designed to provide a scaled-down version of the department store experience to smaller markets. Each carries a variety of home appliances, lawn and garden, tools, household goods, and electronics in an independently owned, average 8,500 square foot facility. It launched in 2012; the same year, the chain was separated from Sears Holdings, the company that owns Sears department stores.

According to the local announcement, the Delaware location will remain open through January 12. During the coming weeks, a liquidation sale is being held with dramatic discounts on merchandise.
