Special to 1808Delaware

City of Delaware residents beginning April 17 will receive in the mail “opt-out” letters related to the City’s electric aggregation program.

Unless they opt-out of the program by May 8, 2023, all eligible customer accounts within the City of Delaware boundary using either AEP Ohio or Ohio Edison will be enrolled in the program.

Once the 21-day opt-out period closes, residents will receive a “switch” letter from their local utility company, confirming enrollment. Going forward, residents in the aggregation program will continue to receive one monthly bill from their local utility company.

Eligible are both residential and small business customers. Not eligible for the aggregation program are customers enrolled in PIPP (Percentage of Income Plan). Customers enrolled with an alternative retail supplier are not eligible; however, they can call to be enrolled.

If a resident chooses to opt-out, their account remains with their current utility company at their current utility rate.

Eligible customers will have the ability to opt-out or opt-back in to the program at any time during agreement, even outside of the 21 opt-out period, free of charge.

The City of Delaware selected Dynegy to be the preferred electricity supplier for its electric aggregation program after voters in November 2022 gave City officials the authority to negotiate the most favorable electricity supply rate and terms.
