This is the weekend when downtown Delaware comes alive with the sights and sounds of the season as Main Street Delaware presents “Home for the Holidays.”

It all begins at 6 PM on Friday near the intersection of William and Sandusky Streets, where carols will be sung before lighting of the community Christmas Tree. Visitors will also be able to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, pet live reindeer, enjoy horse drawn carriage rides, and listen to carolers.

A DATA shuttle bus will be making trips back and forth between Mingo Park and downtown between the hours of 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM; see the shuttle map below.[widgets_on_pages id=1]

On Saturday, the Dash for Dasher Scavenger Hunt takes place from 11 AM to 1 PM. Santa has lost Dasher! Explore downtown following Santa’s clues to find him and have fun along the way. Main Street Delaware will be collecting a voluntary donation of a box of cereal for Delaware area food pantries.

Of course, downtown Delaware will be open for holiday shopping all day with merchants offering holiday specials.

On both Friday (7 to 9 PM ) and Saturday (1 to 3 PM), Santa’s House will be open at the Strand Theatre. Children receive a treat and can be photographed with Santa for only $5.

Sunday brings the wonderful Holiday Parade beginning at 3 PM, stepping off from Mingo Park. The Post Office will collect your letters to Santa at the start of the parade!
