The City of Delaware Dog Park has officially reopened for the season, much to the delight of local dog owners and their four-legged friends. Located at 840 Mill Run Crossing, just behind Kohl’s, the 5-acre park is a favorite destination for dogs to run, play, and socialize — and it’s now back in action from dawn to dusk.

Every year, the park closes in February to allow for routine maintenance and turf restoration, ensuring a clean and safe environment for all. Mid-April marks its seasonal reopening, and this year is no exception, with the gates once again open to eager paws.

Designed with Dogs in Mind

What sets this dog park apart is its thoughtful layout. It features designated areas for large and small dogs, helping to ensure a comfortable experience for all breeds and sizes. Whether your pup prefers playful romps or gentle sniff-and-greets, there’s a space that’s just right.

Dog owners are encouraged to be familiar with the park’s rules — all created to keep the environment friendly and fun for both pets and people. A few key highlights include:

  • No puppies under 4 months old
  • No more than two dogs per handler
  • No dogs in heat
  • No food, treats, glass, alcohol, or smoking
  • Prong, pinch, spiked, choke collars, and retractable leashes are prohibited

Importantly, dogs showing any signs of aggression must be removed immediately, and waste must be cleaned up by the handler.

Safety First, Fun Always

All dogs must be up to date on their rabies tag, license, and vaccinations, and must remain leashed when entering and exiting the park. Unleashing is only allowed in the designated double-gated area. The city recommends that handlers be at least 16 years old, and asks that children under 12 stay outside the fenced area for their safety.

Benches are provided for resting, but lawn and folding chairs are not permitted in the park, helping keep the grounds clear and safe for all.
