As temperatures soar this summer, Delaware County residents in need of relief from the sweltering heat can find comfort and safety at local libraries. Through a partnership with Homeland Security and Emergency Management, several community libraries across the county are now designated cooling centers, open to the public during regular operating hours.

Stay Safe During Extreme Heat

Extreme heat can be dangerous, particularly for vulnerable groups like young children, older adults, and individuals with medical conditions. Delaware County encourages residents to be aware of the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke—and to use these cooling centers as needed.

Know Before You Go

While most libraries are closed on Sundays, hours may vary slightly at each branch. Visitors are encouraged to check the specific location’s website or call ahead. All libraries offer accessible, air-conditioned environments and a peaceful atmosphere to read, relax, or recharge both body and phone.
