A long-planned collaboration between BST&G Fire District and Delaware County EMS reached a significant milestone Monday with the groundbreaking for a new shared facility in Sunbury.

Located strategically just north of Camping World and Tanger Outlets on Wilson Road, the future Fire Station 352 and EMS Medic 11 Station marks a significant step forward in enhancing emergency response capabilities for local residents and visitors alike. With an anticipated opening date in the near future, this joint facility underscores the commitment of local agencies to community safety and cooperative efficiency.

Voter Support Drives Community Safety

The realization of Fire Station 352 and EMS Medic 11 Station comes after dedicated efforts dating back to 2019. BST&G Fire District, which serves the communities of Sunbury, Berkshire Township, Trenton Township, and Galena, successfully sought community support for this initiative through a bond levy.

Approved by voters on March 19, 2024, the bond levy facilitated Delaware County Treasurer’s office to purchase $4.5 million in bonds to fund this critical infrastructure. These funds not only finance the new Sunbury station but also support additional station developments and essential renovations at the existing Cherry Street headquarters.

A Model for Collaborative Emergency Response

Strategically positioned just north of Interstate 71 off Wilson Road near prominent local landmarks such as Camping World and Tanger Outlets, the new facility addresses increasing demands in a rapidly growing area.

The project was first conceived in 2019, marking years of dedicated planning by the BST&G Fire District, which operates in a region covering Sunbury, Berkshire Township, Trenton Township, and Galena.

The new station will house both BST&G firefighters and Delaware County EMS personnel, serving as an operational hub that exemplifies the synergy among Delaware County’s first responders. This collaboration ensures efficient resource sharing and rapid response, reinforcing the region’s emergency preparedness and resilience.
